October 30, 2019, Jersey City, NJ 鈥 蜜桃影像 (HCCC) will host an inaugural, credit-bearing regional seminar supporting faculty use of evidence-based teaching practices. 鈥淓ngaging and Supporting Underprepared Students鈥 is a collaboration of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) and the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE), and will focus on advancing student and faculty success through quality instruction at community and technical colleges nationwide.
The seminar will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the HCCC Culinary Conference Center, 161 Newkirk Street in Jersey City. Laurie Pendleton, Executive Director of Assessment at ACUE, will facilitate the seminar.
鈥淲e were impressed with 蜜桃影像鈥檚 commitment to teaching excellence and faculty professional development,鈥 said Dr. Edward Leach, NISOD鈥檚 executive director. 鈥淭he seminar will equip faculty from the host institution, as well as their colleagues from neighboring colleges, with strategies proven to make a positive difference in student learning.鈥
Seminar participants will learn about and implement teaching practices aligned to ACUE鈥檚 Effective Practice Framework 鈥 a statement of the core instructional competencies every college educator should possess 鈥 which was independently validated and is endorsed by the American Council on Education. Faculty who satisfy the seminar requirements, which include implementing at least two evidence-based teaching practices and writing reflections about their experience, will earn credit toward a Certificate in Effective College Instruction, a highly-sought-after credential co-endorsed by ACUE and the American Council on Education.
